Civil Rights & Discrimination

Oregon law ensures that individuals cannot be denied access to public spaces based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, disability, or gender identity. Discrimination in public accommodations, including businesses and services, is unlawful.

Additionally, gender identity discrimination is recognized under the law. In Oregon, employers and public entities may not discriminate or retaliate against someone based on their gender identity. Federal rulings, such as Macy v. Department of Justice (2012), confirm that discrimination against transgender individuals or those who do not conform to expected gender stereotypes is considered sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
